Number_4_Top_BottomDane Reynolds’ newest surfboard model is about to be released (July 15). Now, if you’ve ever ridden a Dumpster Diver, Neck Beard, DFR or anything else the Venturan has conceived, you’ll know that the newest model, simply named “Four”, is worthy of your time. Just prior to the 2012 US Open of Surfing, Dane was testing a series of concept boards. This was, as you can probably guess, number four in the series.

So, a little tech gear.

Says Channel Islands: “Each concept board incorporated a blend of single to double with vee, 13″+ nose and 15″+ tail with a double bump. After a few months of tweaks and refinements, the result is a design that can be ridden in two different dimension sets to dial in the type of waves and conditions you ride.”

So, the Four comes in two types: Groveller and Utility. If the Groveller is your jam, the dimensions are wider and thicker, and you’ll ride three or four inches shorter than your height. But if the Utility tickles you, then it’s more of a step-down vibe, to be riden two inches shorter than your height. Here’s how Dane takes his: For Groveller, 5’8″ x 19 ‘1/2″  x 2’ 7/16″, and for Utility, 5’9” x 19 ‘1/4″ x 2 ‘7/16”.

Also, if you’re puzzling over the bumps, here’s what Channel Islands say: “The base consensus on the bumps allow to keep straight line on the rail, both in front of the fins on the main outline (as you can draw in the tail rapidly with the bumps) and also little straight sections between the bumps, maintaining drive.”

Obviously this works better for those in the intermediate to pro range, since, like, it’s Dane. But the Four will blossom most in knee to head-high. Expect to see these under the feet of everyone, everywhere, pretty soon.

For full dimensions breakdown, head over the Channel Islands. You can check out both the Utility and Groveller by clicking the tabs. Neat-o. Also worth heading over there to re-watch Entitled, in which Dane puts the Four to v good use.
