Parker Coffin Takes Trophy In First Contest Since Hectic Face Injury

California’s fickle Queen delivered for the 2023 Rincon Classic.

Core surf contests are something of a favorite here at Stab. Invite-only events at special waves manage to pull our attention like little else (e.g. the Padang Cup, the Backdoor Shootout, and the Capitulo Perfeito.)

The Rincon Classic is one such event.

However, it’s not a heavy water exhibition like the aforementioned. Rather, it’s a chance to give local Santa Barbara surfers a glorious moment of peace in an oft overrun Rincon lineup.

Every year, 805 heavyweights like Dane Reynolds, Eithan Osborne, Parker Coffin, and Conner Coffin show up to celebrate their coast’s fickle mistress. In turn, they face off with underground heroes and well-stickered teens to hopefully hoist one of California’s most coveted trophies.

In his first return to competitive surfing since his Bajan face-blast, Parker Coffin took out this years Pro division at the Classic. With a freshly slapped Body Glove sticker adorning his blade, he swatted Jabe Swierkocki, Dimitri Poulos and Cory Arrambide out of the final with some reliable backside honkers.

It was an especially heartwarming win, considering that the Rincon Classic was the first contest Parker ever surfed, at just 7-years old.

Other highlights include CI shaper Britt Merrick posting a 9.6 to win the Grand Masters division, and 11-year old Maddox Keet finding a 50-turn superbowl for a 9.
