A Twin Fin And Thruster To Suit Your Summer

A couple Misfit surfboards for all your warm months needs.

Misfit surfboards are producing ocean vessels a little more, shall I say, eclectic than your standard boards. This week they dished out the next two sleds in their Modern Cloud Control range, the Diamond Dancer 3 and the Beach Metall 2 twin.

Like the surfers atop them, both these boards add a little flavour to the monotonous market of twin-fins and thrusters. They’re not completely askew – they’re still essentially performance based boards – but they have added tweaks and touch ups which add eccentricities to the way they surf

They have quad channels, different wings, peculiar outlines and a little extra foam – good for surfers like most of us who could benefit from a little bonus paddle power. Although if you watched Stab High you’d know they’re also good for flying down the line and popping proper punts.

Jake Vinny did stomp a Passion Pop in the Waco pool atop a Misfit.

Their team have been heavy on the R & D over the past few years – everywhere from Sri Lanka back to the East Coast of Aus  – and now they’re launching the latest incarnations of two boards in their Modern Cloud Control range.

In short, a twin-fin and thruster that would fulfil all your Australian summer desires.

First up is the Beach Metall twinny.

In a meld of layman and technical shaper terms, Dave Howell, Misfit’s shaper, said the following, “We’ve straightened the rail line from mid point to flyer providing even more drive. The flyer, or wing then breaks the rail  line for release and turn-ability. The rails and overall foil is refined from nose to tail to let the water flow over board with minimal restriction, also giving the board incredible hold and control.”

There’s no need for a trailer fin, just two up-right “MR” style fins will cut it.

And like any twin, it’s good for generating speed in the smaller and flat-spot-laden surfers, but as is evident above, it’ll also go well on rail and down the line if you just so happen to stumble upon a few groomed walls.

The next part of their MCC3 collection is the Diamond Dancer 3.

A little more performance-y than the Beach Metal, and one you’ll keep for the punchier days when added manoeuvrability is needed. The DD3 is undeniably a performance shortboard, but as previously stated, one with added spice.

Previous incarnations of the Diamond Dancer had a diamond tail, but Dave Howell opted for a more standard round square on the revamped model. In addition, they also dialled back their signature ‘quad feeder’ channel a touch.

“We have reduced depth and slightly widened the channel, which reduces lift and  encourages greater wave connection, while maintaining the phenomenal speed  that the channel generates.” Dave continued “This board is the evolution of years of  design and research in planning hulls, channels, outlines, water displacement and control, and timeless surfboard design.”

So, if your summer quiver is in need of a little revamp, then here’s two offerings you might like to try. If you want a little further information, then head here for the Misfit siteof if you’re someone that prefers to use the coveted ‘under arm test’ then come by the Misfit Bondi store on Gould St and check out the range.

If you fancy, I’ll even pop down from upstairs and take care of that troublesome tail-pad application for you.
