You may remember a Ryan Miller Full Frame from a couple o’ days back – Brian Toff backside-turning down there in Puerto Rico. You may also perhaps recall Ryan offering a brief outline of his trip – a quick, two-day stint to catch the swell generated by Hurricane Igor. You may further yet recall, dear readers, Ryan’s dismay over the lack of wave quality at the spot he had hoped to shoot.
As it turns out, Ryan’s plans took a deviation when his flight was cancelled, forcing him to stay one more night and morning. He awoke to find the conditions you see pictured here, at the wave he had originally made the journey to shoot. As said in the aforementioned Full Frame, if the Rip Curl Search contest gets decent swell for the event, we could be on for one helluva show. According to Ryan, the wave itself is no walk in the park:
“The entry and exit to this wave is about as treacherous as you can get. Super sharp reef with millions of urchins. The end bit of the wave breaks right in front of a 100 foot cliff, so if you lose your board you’re in for a long swim around the cliff to the next beach. If Puerto Rico gets a big swell for the Rip Curl Search event and they run the comp here, some guys will be rushing like crazy and some will have shit stains on their trunks.”
Let’s hope that the latter of those two scenarios is the less prevalent one. Or should we? – Elliot Struck
