One Wave: A year’s worth of Good Vibes

Words by Rick Snowden Take off behind the bottlebrush, spray the sleeping koala on the inflatable, duck the leaping shark and high-five your cetacean buddies on the inside. Rhythm and surf artist Nanda Ormond have released their Australian-themed capsule that’s as trippy as it is comical. Asher Pacey surfs as Asher Pacey does, fast and silky, down the line linking tunnels to highlines, to carves to spins while Nanda’s animated flora et fauna dance around him in celebration. We advise that one be in a seated position as the intro scenes are going to make your head spin, and if ever there was an ode to the absolute joy that comes with owning a twin fin, then this is it. It’s likely that you’ve seen Nanda’s work before, he splatters ink for Surfing World and has a back catalog of commissioned work with various brands including Rhythm. His work had a touch of dark social commentary, that occasionally seeps through the psychedelic and comic themes of his productions. The man’s got a knack for mind-bending animations (the kind leave you feeling like you need a glass of water and a lay down in a quiet room) and his illustrations are poppy and quirky. Rhythm, the purveyors of surf and art infused threads, have made Nanda’s graphics tangible and available for your wearing pleasure. The Oz prints that make up the capsule are painted across their latest range of trunks, pocket tees and hats. You can now sport the earthy tones of flora and fauna from the land down unda’ in an exclusive Rhythm collab with Surfstitch, right here:
