Endless Moroccan Walls With Harrison Roach And A 7’5” Duo Fin

A short film on short notice.

Ever seen a mid-length, dual-single fin trim a world class point break? Plus-size to thruster, Harrison Roach is one man who selects his craft to suite the conditions (no one appreciates seeing a grown man riding 27 litres of foam in shin-high burgers right?) or, he’ll bring something fruity to the table to keep his surfing fresh. He recently jumped on a last minute Moroccan expedition with videographer Andy Gough to hunt down a forecasted Atlantic groundswell.

“I was riding a 7’5” Neal Purchase Junior duo,” says Harrison. “Having such a long board on such wide open and long walls made everything feel new again. The waves were really, really long. Each time I kicked out of one I’d look back and couldn’t see where I took off, making for a fucking long paddle back. Five waves out there felt like fifty anywhere else. And that was the major benefit in riding a bigger board… the paddling was easier.”

“The offshore wind in Morocco was wild, at times it was well over 40 knots and on a big board like that you could really feel the wind get underneath it.”

“We travelled last minute and all of us went on our own dime. Andy and I went in together and rented a camera from a place in Brisbane, forking out what seemed like a lot of money, hoping that someone would eventually support us and it would all be worth it. Which it was. There’s a lot of freedom that comes from doing something for yourself, and I knew that if the waves sucked Andy Gough was probably talented enough to make a film about us throwing rocks (which we did a lot of) if that’s what it came to.”
