Surfing will progress, it’s inevitable. Fast forward twenty years, or even ten, pro surfing will be unrecognisable. Majority of the top 34 will have slipped into the shade (excluding Kelly perhaps), their fire smothered by the vibrant groms and rookies of today. The webcast will feature a fresh set of faces. A bright new cast of stars to dazzle, entertain and create their own forms of controversy. Just who’ll be calling out the “tennis tour”, swearing at judges or stomping the first double twist in a jersey is yet to be seen, though together with Quiksilver, we’ve been working to find out. Welcome back to Young Guns, you’ve tuned in just in time for the main event.

We’ve seen him in the Young Guns battle before, and since then the boy from Avoca, NSW has grown – ah the wonders of biology! But the increase in size hasn’t diminished his enthusiasm for transcending the lip. He’s just moving more water around. Perhaps he scored extra votes for featuring a few female behind shots? Or more likely, it was his well-rounded abilities that won him a ticket to Indonesia. Either way Sandon is back to claim his place on the throne, bigger and badder than ever.

“I mostly shot my edit in Hawaii and at the local beaches around Avoca,” Sadon told Stab. “Funnest sessions would have to have been at Rocky point, there were a couple of mental days!”
