Surfing will progress, it’s inevitable. Fast forward twenty years, or even ten, pro surfing will be unrecognisable. Majority of the top 34 will have slipped into the shade (excluding Kelly perhaps), their fire smothered by the vibrant groms and rookies of today. The webcast will feature a fresh set of faces. A bright new cast of stars to dazzle, entertain and create their own forms of controversy. Just who’ll be calling out the “tennis tour”, swearing at judges or stomping the first double twist in a jersey is yet to be seen, though together with Quiksilver, we’ve been working to find out. Welcome back to Young Guns, you’ve tuned in just in time for the main event.

Before the final eight go toe to toe for the title, we thought you’d like to get to know them a little better. So, here’s a punchy reel and a string of questions to break the ice.

See a flash of blonde hair, perhaps a little green, some check, a slender figure throwing heat in the water – meet Kyuss King. He’s from Byron Bay, New South Wales and this ain’t his first Young Guns rodeo. You’ll likely be aware of his existence, Vans certainly are. His future is bright. About as bright as those locks. Recently he’s been training with Damien Hobgood in Sumbawa, squeezing in some Indonesian prep before he enters the ring – bookies take note. According to Kyuss (much to the envy of the rest of us), wave quality around home helped him turn his winning clip around with ease.

“My edit was filmed mostly around the East coast of Australia,” explains Mr King. “Byron Bay down through to Iluka and a couple of waves from Hawaii… Waves had been pumping on the East coast so I got the clip together pretty quickly. My favourite sessions are the ones at home, always good surfing your local spots!”

Last place you surfed? Lowers just now. (five days ago) Pumping!

Last move you pulled? Straight air and came in on that one!

Last board you rode? My model I’ve been working on with DHD! 5′ 8″ x 18 1/8 x 2 1/8

Last claim you pulled? Sumbawa shooting for “Under The Influence” clip (below). Straight air-to-look back at camera claim Haha.

Last song you listened to? Black Magic by Slayer.

Last film you watched? Masterminds on the flight over to Cali.

Last book you read? Learners Permit book – Got it!

Last google search? Craigslist 1960 – 1980 Chevy

Last person you stalked on Instagram? @hannahfergusonofficial

Last person you pranked? Al Cleland Jr! and my brother Rasmus daily!

Last text message you sent? Dawn patrol session, meet in lobby.

Last meal your parents cooked you? Mum’s spaghetti bolognese!

Last surfer that got you pumped? Filipe at J-bay.

Here’s another recent slice of his handy work:

With the Indonesian final merely days away, keep it dialled for updates.
