The Stab Caddy: Julian Wilson’s Hyfi

Welcome back to the Stab Caddy, the home of professional surf crafts of extreme interest. “The ultimate surfboard gives you feedback,” says Julian Wilson. “The moment you stand on them, you know. It tells you how it wants to be ridden. They allow you to create space to do whatever you want to do. You never have to rush. The perfect surfboard makes you feel like you’ve got all the time in the world.” Julian Wilson is a man who knows surfboards. He can analyse a board’s performance in just one wave. So, it was quite a surprise when, late last year, the previously-free agent announced that he would finally be going steady with just one brand: JS. Because Jules knows consistency is key to success, his normal shortboard dimensions rarely vary from: 5’11”x 18 7/8”x 2 3/8” (volume close to 27L) One recently-introduced feature of his crafts, however, is JS’s new Hyfi tech. According to JS, it’s Faster: “Combined with the complex layering process, the lightweight nature of HYFI translates to a staggering transfer of energy from surfer to board, without the typical “chatter” associated with standard EPS construction.” It’s Stronger: “After our extensive series of tests we know it’s 30% stronger than standard PU construction.” And, Lighter: “20 percent lighter than standard PU construction, HYFI has been perfected at TEAM WEIGHT.” (More on the Hyfi here!) Let’s hear above how Jules is feeling the Hyfi when in the mix!
