O’Neill

Here’s trunk that’s a world away from the cottons and ropes of the prevailing wind of so-called authentic construction. With a deep influence from basketball and heavily invested on the tech angle side, these reversible trunks get better with every viewing. Stab: Can you riff a little on the technical angle? Matt: I’ve learnt a lot on the tech side from working with O’Neill and our suppliers. I was always a cotton short guy. But the technical fabrics really interest me and I really dig sport brands so I really wanted to take on that angle and use the strengths of our factories. Why reversible? The two-for-one thing. The consumer sure loves value for money so I wanted to catch that attention. In layman’s terms, talk me through all the cool tech details? So starting with the grey side: the fabric is our epic-Stretch which is 91 percent polyester and nine percent elastane. The fabric was DWr (Durable Water repel- lent), treated too for less water absorption. It was printed with a heather texture for an athletic look. The cut-and-sew panels were designed for a drape look and the gusset makes this lightweight fabric feel nice and relaxed. The multiple rubber-coated eyelets are there to add attention to the colourful drawcord which is also DWr coated. The back pockets are waterproof sealed and have highlighted silicon tape. Inside the pockets they are all welded and glued with laser-cut silicon-coated drain holes. Now the black mesh side: this is an elastane mesh, real similar to a medical mesh that is used for support and is super durable. The textured black fabric is our techno-Butter, 91 percent polyester and nine percent elastane. It’s a gridded texture with the ol DWr treatment. It’s glued and welded to the mesh for a seamless join. Also has a vertical waterproof zip with silicon-highlighted tape. The inside leg has two laser-cut drain-holes on either side of the inseam for letting out sand and water.
