Noa Deane just got back from Mexico. Twice. Well, he just got back from the US, during which he went to Mexico twice. After touching down in Sydney for a brief taste of the big city lights, he got bored real quick and swooped into the Stab office. Noa ain’t like most pro surfers his age, and he delights with brutal honesty and unexpected hits of humour. Conversation covered many topics, during which time Noa occasionally swirled through his Instagram feed. We asked him for his five favourite accounts to follow. Then, since he’s clocked so much time there of late, he gave us five things to do in Mexico. Shockingly mundane! But totally good!

Noa’s Five Instagram Accounts To Follow

@tunameltsmyheart: Unexplainably good. People might say it’s cheesy but the dog’s mesmerising. It’s the weirdest dog ever but you just wanna pet it.

@ironlak: I’m really into this one. It’s the tagging paint that graffiti artists use. Somehow they get away with sponsoring taggers. I’m not into tagging but some of the art is sick.

@rainbowlunches: Highlights here are the bacon taco, the pug loaf, the breakfast tattoo and the homeless Mexican sandwich. Again, not sure what makes this so good but I can’t stop looking.

@therealdustindollin: He’s the original pissdrunk, amazing bench skater and he posts all his photos sideways for some reason, so you have to tilt your phone on the side to look at all his shots.

@natgeo: National Geographic’s official Instagram. Just crazy photos and crazy stories. The weird photo assignments that they do in North Korea with only iPhones are nuts. People on there take photography to another level.

(What the hell does a clip from the Telos have to do with Mexico? Nothing! Ain’t it fun? Mex clip comes soon!)

Noa’s Five Things To Do In Mexico

1. Surf righthand points. They’re everywhere, they’re the best part about surfing in Mex, and you’ll never realise how many of them there are there until you get there. If you find the right one on the right day, they just keep going. There’s tubes, ramps and never-ending faces.

2. Drink beer. Modelo or Tecate. It’s cheap, like two bucks a beer, light and refreshing, and nothing’s better after a long day on a long point.

3. Get to know yourself. You’ll get to know yourself really well. Like Indo, there’s actually not a whole lot to do there except surf your brains out, eat tacos and drink beers. So when you’re not surfing, you’re staring at the roof.

4. Car conversation and weird radio. As I said, there’s not a whole lot to do but surf, and everything’s spread out so you have long car rides. You’ll find yourself talking a whole lot of shit with your friends during those drives, and the local radio’s a pretty good talking point ’cause it can be real funny.

5. Know when to leave. The place is amazing, but I feel like the best way to enjoy it is milk the swell you went there for, then get out before you lose your mind. Snatch and grab. Short and sweet.

Watch out for Noa’s thrilling clip from Mexico, coming soon…
