Banzai Warlord Reef McIntosh Gives His Vans Pipe Masters Picks

‘Some of the tube riders are going to be left out in the cold.”

Having a reputation for muscling stand-tall pits says a lot when you’re 6’3”.

Stab commissioned the help of Reef McIntosh to give us his Betonline.ag picks for this year’s Vans Pipe Masters. Reef McIntosh lives at Malibu in the summer, and Hawaii in the winter. He is almost always a fixture at Cloudbreak and Pipeline during peak swell season.

Sub six feet waves, Reef is a decent surfer. But it’s in waves bigger than eight feet that he takes on a new dimension. His level of comfort in uncomfortable situations sets him apart. If you haven’t seen his WOTW entry from 2011, watch it here. This top turn at second reef is similarly psycho.

With a frequently changing VPM forecast, it’s a little unclear what style of surfing is going to win this thing. Reef’s backing anyone who’s ‘not scared to hit it after a barrel’. That includes: Balaram Stack, Barron Mamiya, Billy Kemper, Mason Ho and Jackson Bunch on the men’s side, and Caity Simmers, Sierra Kerr, Bettylou Sakura Johnson and Bethany Hamilton on the women’s.

Sus odds here.
