Photo Lyfe: Nick Pont
Blending mediums, lens and brush.
Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
Nick Pont‘s an open-minded gent, whether it be photography, drawing, painting, shorter boards, longer boards or hiking the Himalayas he’ll find an interesting angle, something worth sharing with the rest of the world.
“The mystique behind surf culture and the compositions I find during travel are of most interest in my photography,” says the Sydney-based artist. “Surf expeditions provide me with a portal away from the city and inspire fresh material that I can take back to the studio. Photography for me is not only an art form but also a tool for creating references and sketches, which I then translate and re-invent as part of my painting and drawing practice.”
