Koa Smith wins V Man model Contest

Koa Smith has won the 2015 VMAN/Ford model Search contest, and has landed on the front cover of the latest V Magazine. As if being a paid freesurfer wasn’t glam enough! And, during the course of the competition, Koa was spotted, and employed as the face of the latest Alexander Wang campaign. And, was photographed by fash gun Steven Klein. Three things to note… One) Koa’s older brother Travis is already a pro male model having walked for brands like Versace and Missoni. Two) Quite how this new career direction fits in with Hurley and his other sponsors is, at this stage, unclear. Three) For all the gals who email us with furious requests for raunchy shoots of half naked men to balance out those of scantily clad female surfers: you’re welcome. Here’s Koa’s interview with V Man: Why do you want to be a model? Koa: My older brother, Travis Smith, is a model, and he’s been doing it for five years or so. I’ve followed him very closely. I see what he does and I’ve always kind of wanted to get into it, and now, it’s happening! What do you do now? I’m a professional surfer. How does surfing compare to modelling? I surf for the adrenaline – it’s a huge adrenaline rush and while I’ve only done a couple of shoots here and there, I’d say you get some gnarly adrenaline from modelling. In that way, they’re surprisingly similar. What would you sacrifice to become a top male model? My pinky finger, but I’d probably need that… What would be your dream modelling gig? An exclusive contract with Calvin Klein or something sounds like a dream. What’s the biggest draw of the modelling life? I think it’s probably the girl models! But really, I think it’s the endless excitement that comes from never knowing what will happen. You’ll also see Koa in this, coming soon:
