Chippa Wilson is understated in the best way possible. He doesn’t chase limelight, but rather, it falls on him naturally and (pardon the cliche) he lets his surfing do the talking. His house is kinda the same as his personality in this sense. Modest from the outside, but peel back the covers and y’find the most endearing quirks. Namely, in this case; a valium pillow, a transvestite zombie shrine, a swagger of framed print covers (hey, there’s Stab!), a strange fondness for taxidermy and a watch collection. Quintessential Chip. What y’don’t get from this Vauxlair gallery is the proximity of back door to river (where Chip sometimes takes his boat a-paddlin’), the stone’s-huck distance from Cabarita Beach and the subtle, but unmistakable atmospherics that Australian north coast bushland constantly expresses.
