Guess The Scores And Win A 3-Board Lost Surfboards Quiver
To the most adept surf critic!
Being a “couch critic” is a bit like being a lawyer.
Nobody likes lawyers.
Despite this widespread sentiment, we want to reward your scrutiny by providing a three-board Lost Surfboards quiver to the best Surf100 judge.
Now, you might be wondering how one person judges surfing “better” than another. It’s simple:
The judge whose scores most closely mirror those of our head critic (me*) wins the kitty.
It’s a totally arbitrary performance metric, sure, but with three free boards on the table and no significant effort required on your part (besides watching Surf100 and scoring all the waves), are you really gonna complain?
Speaking of scoring the waves, here’s how it’s done:
First and foremost, it is highly recommended that you use two devices (computer/TV + smartphone) to view Surf100. Watch the action on the big screen, score on the palm pilot. If that’s not an option, you’ll have to minimize the video component of Surf100 every time you have to score, which is fine but annoying.
Anyway.
After a wave is ridden on our Surf100 live feed, you’ll see a ‘Score now’ badge pop up on screen. At this point you want to grab your scoring device, determine the wave’s value, and use the slider to select a number between 1 and 100. Once you’re happy with the score, hit ‘submit’. Your score will then be entered into a pool of all other Surf100 viewers, averaged, and spit out as an official score moments later.
Once a score is locked in, you can hover your mouse over the number (or click the number, if you’re on a smart device) in the timeline to see all of the following:
- the score you submitted
- the score the head critic submitted
- the viewers’ average score
And for what it’s worth, here’s the criteria our head critic will be using to score the waves.
