Five Additions to Stab Recommends
The practical edition.
You’re going to love this new weekly addition. Not. Once a week we’re going to update the languid Stab Recommends with a few things, just stuff we like, and then compile them here and let them breathe. We’re easing into it this week with a selection of objects that are actually quite practical. It’s the what’s (in) my bag edition. Expect this column to bend left from here.
A Backpack Not for School Kids.
I resisted backpacks for years in the belief that they were for dorks and school kids, and as a result have spent the past decade carting around all manner of impractical vessels. This sleek hold all has me converted. A godsend on the road.
A Beautiful Book, by a Beautiful Woman.
I’ve got the world’s biggest literary (and actual) crush on Zadie Smith. Bit late to the party, I know, but hell, you can’t read them all. White Teeth is an actual masterpiece, and Swing Time I haven’t quite got to yet. But it’s about dancing. I know that because I heard it on David Baddiel’s excellent Penguin podcast.
Surferjack Trunks
So industrial, so workwear, so Carhartt. I’ve yet to test these in the surf, but they look dashing on. A little bit longer too. Refreshing.
Solve the Fashion/Function Conundrum
Cream sneakers in Latin American cities is a mug’s game, as I’ve found traversing Santiago the last few days. Dion’s silhouette, in leather (thanks to Sammy Montano) would be just the remedy for this footwear malady. Gorgeously practical.
Raindrops Aren’t Falling on my Head
Two Hurley collabs in one chronicle? Ok, yeah, we got hooked up. That being said, this jacket is a wonder. Slimline, waxy-tech, and it’s warmer than you’d guess too.
