An Ultra Lux Surf Contest At A Five Star Hotel… In Cabo

Luxury’s gone soft at the Los Cabos Open of Surf!

In the last few years, surfing has experienced the gentle caress of real wealth.

First, some billionaires saved the World Tour from going belly up, then the wavepool saga, and while all this was going on surfers started taking luxury surf trips. From Tropic Surf to Wave Collective surfers can now pick up the phone and travel and surf in style. And why shouldn’t we? Camping out and sleeping on the beach was big in the ’80s but only because surfers couldn’t afford to buy a plane ticket, and never mind a five-star hotel. Personally I–and maybe because like luxury, I’ve also gone soft in my older more decadent age–prefer a five-star room that’ll send a masseuse to my room and with a click of a button follow her with rosé, a cheeseburger, and a kale salad.

From where you’d actually rather be.

A few years ago the Maldives started doing a luxury surf event with pro surfers that had recently resigned from the World Tour. Last year Kerr won it, the year before Taj and so on. So for this year’s Los Cabos Open of Surf and the Los Cabos Tourism board have partnered with The Cape, a Thompson Hotel to bring you the first annual soft top comp. But we’re gonna call it a soft soriée, cuz we’re fruity like that.

They’ve put $10k up for grabs and on Saturday, June 22nd we’ll take over Monuments and battle it out with eight hand-picked surfers who carry the disposition of a summer breeze: Rob Machado, Sage Erickson, Oli Kurtz, Josh Kerr, local surfer Jhony Corzo and more.

From where you’d actually rather be.

If you’re looking for the why, it’s The Cape Hotel’s fourth birthday and if you know anything about The Cape Hotel you know that they don’t cut corners. They are flying in Mexican superstar, Chef Enrique Olvera, musicians and more for a weekend of decadence. Our friends from Newmark Models are flying in a plane full of ladies and partnered with a few premier brands in the swimwear (not surf trunks) world and putting on a fashion show on the roof come Saturday night.

It wouldn’t be very Stab of us not to invite you down, so we’ve put a package together. If you want to come down and hang with some of your favorite surfers, classy women, drink cocktails, and well, surf, hit the link to below to book yourself a room.

Come get soft with us!
