7 Picks for the Southerly Change*
The seasons are changing in Oz right now. And that means that an equipment change is in order. Dressing for the occasion is harder than it looks, and that’s where Surfstitch.com comes in. Here we leaf through the winter ranges, and pluck the shiniest of fruits from the branch. Because remember, underdressing is a cardinal sin! 1. Globe x Dion No Mercy Mens Zip Thru Hoodie (Black) Ah, god bless Dion Agius. Surfing’s favourite hustler never misses a beat and, as you’d expect from a man who’s based his career around being one step ahead of the curve, his sig Globe line is right on point. This hoodie’s got you covered pretty much anywhere. Perfect for sliding into post frosty surf, and for the nighttimes, unzip, add leather Jacket, and walk straight to the front of the queue. Shop here. 2. Nudie Jeans Co. Grim Tim Mens Jean (Dry Selvage) The best pair of jeans I ever owned were Nudies. It was a match made in heaven. A dreamy fit, just the right shade; I thought that we’d make a lifetime of great memories together. Then some determined pilferer, obvs a 32 regular, scaled the fence to the backyard of my apartment and swiped em from the line! Along with every other piece of clothing I owned. Keep em safe. Shop here. 3. Patagonia R2 Front Zip Full Suit Steamer Wetsuit (Black) I actually wore one of these for my pre-work surf not three hours ago. It flexy, soft, it’s everything you could dream of and more. But, I’m still not happy. My suit was purchased mere days before my entering into the never ending vortex of the surf industry, so I paid full retail price. The horror! Still, if you gotta spend the coin, this is worthy rubber purchase. Shop here. 4. Rip Curl Spinal Anti Series Zth Fleece (Black marle) Every now and then you’ve just got to go practical. And, if you have to, this lil wind stopping number from the Curl is far from a bad option. Perfect for the crisper morning, insert coffee into right hand, and lines to horizon and you’re good to go. The beauty lies in the slim fit, the fleecy inner will keep you toasty without compromising your silhouette. No Costanzas here. Shop here. 5. Rusty TV Screen Long Sleeve Tee (White) Ah the nineties. what a glorious time it was. The subtle non-branded gear’s starting to creep out, and in its place, bold in ya face logos. The dotted R’s been pumping these out since 1988, and let’s hope they continue for many moons. Own a piece of core surfing history, rep the roots. Shop here. 6. Quiksilver Broken Sails Tee (Bluestone) My favourite tee growing up was a grey Quik number with the old school logo printed on the back, just like this one. The logo’s modelled on Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave of Kanagawa, incase didn’t know. Anyway, I left my fav tee at a pal’s house and when he came to return it, it went missing. He said he posted it through my letter box, and if I didn’t get it then he must have got the wrong house. I never believed him. We’re no longer friends. Relive your youth with vintage Quik, god they were simpler times. Shop here. 7. Hurley Phantom Limited 202 Cz Full Steamer Wetsuit (Black) These suits are everywhere at the moment. And with good reason. They’re aesthetically, well, flawless. It’s hard to make a plain black wetsuit distinctive, but Hurley’ve done it in spades. This suit’s cutting edge tech wise, featuring Hurley’s signature Thermo-light heat reflective neoprene. Oh and you know that guy John, he wears these. Nuff said. Shop here.
