Watch: The Very Best Of Summer – Waves, Beers And Free Gigs
A Summer Sessions retrospective with Harry Bryant, Mitch Crews, Alex Lahey, The Belligerents and more.
Summer’s over now and winter’s already creeping in, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce those scorching days filled with a couple waves, a few tins and all the run-ins that happen in between. This past summer we rallied alongside Summer Bright and threw an extra additive into the mix – a bunch of free gigs!
And who’s going to complain about an Aussie tour with The Belligerents and Alex Lahey when it won’t cost you a buck to get in?
The tour’s all wrapped up, but we wrangled a hell of a lot of fun into the month long run from West Oz to Coffs Harbour and all the way up to the Sunny Coast.
Hazza B ran along for the ride in WA trying his luck with a few Quokka’s, a couple aquatic jumps and probably the worst behind the boat surfing you’ve laid eyes on.
“I definitely extended my tinny quota for the week. Had a few too many than I should have. I actually hadn’t heard the bands before so I was super keen to hear them out – and they were so sick.”
After that we jetted to the East and drove our way up the coast with a boot full of boards, guitars... and maybe few low-key cases in there too.
"That was the closest I'll ever be to being on tour with a band. We would surf, then head off to the event to sink a few beers and watch the bands. We truly ripped the lid off it.” a stoked out and self-confessed groupie, Crewsy told us.
The tour may be over now and the mercury’s taken the usual autumn dip, so while you waiting for next summer to roll around you can watch all the highlights above.
A hell of a lot happened on the tour, but we’ve managed to pack all the best tubes, airs and crowd surfs into one three minute snip. If you snuck into one of the gigs you might see yourself in the crowd and if not, then make sure you’re front and centre next time the opportunity beckons.
