Watch: ‘Easy Love’ By The Jim Mitchells
An all-Super8 film with heart, soul and a whole lot of flowers.
Anyone who’s worked with the Super8 format knows the perils associated; lighting’s tricky, the now-dated cameras can be unreliable, while buying and processing 8mm film has a real financial sting. But nail it, like Sam Eastcott has for the latest single by The Jim Mitchells, ‘Easy Love’, and you’ll have a reel of warm hues, charismatic noise and saturated flavour.
That brings us to the track itself.
Romantic in its narrative as it is in the thoughtful melodies and dreamy treatment present in the sound, the track is part of a shift in direction for band. Laid up against material from their debut album Planet Absorbed, the two singles released so far have more depth, confidence and maturity in production.
“This song is especially important to me and thematically, it encapsulates the next phase for myself and the band,” frontman Jim Mitchell told Pile Rats. “It’s definitely a personal song – it’s about love…and about finding it right in front of you.”
Love Hypnotic is the band’s sophomore release, due out late January. It’s an eight track LP and it’ll be turntable friendly thanks to Sydney’s Third Eye Stimuli Records. The label just opened up the album for pre-ordering for those interested.
The band have also announced a run of shows early in the year to support the drop, so head this way to stay in touch.
