Yago And Lucas Order Their Chips With The Dip

Somethings fishy, and I think I like it.

In the past few months we posted stories about Anthony Filligim and Nathan Monchet, both of whom had distinct experiences in which they got so barreled they "got bored."

And now, this.

Yago Dora and Lucas Silveira took a trip to Mexico recently with (despite his IG handle) extremely talented lensman Anthony Valverde. The three chopped the footage in a decisively creative way that prompted us to call up Yago and Lucas to hear about the trip. Upon doing so, Lucas informed us that their migration to the right points came as a result of their "getting a bit bored and over it after a few days at Puerto."

I've never been in the position where I've been so barreled that I got bored. I don't know how one puts themselves in those positions (obviously), but it has changed my outlook on crowd control. Rather than looking for less crowded good waves, maybe I'm better off hoping that the waves are so crowded and so good that pros like Lucas and Yago simply decide to move on. Maybe, just maybe, one day I'll get enough barrels to get bored myself.

In other news, Yago's mustache and backhand have never looked better, which should have everyone feeling extremely excited for December 8th.

Scroll to hear from Lucas and Yago and click above to watch them get so barreled they had to go somewhere else.

Yes daddy!

Stab: Yago, tell us about this mustache. Was Gerry Lopez the inspiration, or are your likenesses just a happy accident?
Yago: The first time I wore a mustache was during my first Pipe Masters in 2018 and Gerry was my inspiration. I’m not very superstitious, but somehow I feel like when I have a mustache I become a better barrel rider?! [Laughs] Gerry knew what’s up!

Was this your first time to Puerto? Tell us about your experience.
Yago: I’ve been to Puerto a few times before. I'd say it’s my favorite beach break.

What do you appreciate most about Lucas's surfing?
Yago: I appreciate that he wants to surf all day long no matter the conditions. He is gnarly when it’s huge and as gnarly when it’s three feet! I like to stay in the water as long as I can also, so he’s my favorite surf trip partner for sure!

As Wilem Powerfish would say, Lucas is giving this wall a solid thrashing.

Stab: Now to you Lucas, was this your first trip since corona started? What have you been up to?
Lucas: First trip out of Brazil since Corona, yes. When the whole lockdown started I was just getting back to surfing after breaking my leg at the end of last year, so when we were not allowed to surf at home I still surfed every day. I was just so excited to be back in the water, and it was nice to be home for a few months and explore a little bit in Brazil. Also without comps and traveling me and @badfilmer started a YouTube channel called Hammer Tales, so that’s keeping us busy putting eps every week, check it out!

You're a 2-to-20-foot guy. Is normal-sized Puerto boring for you?
Lucas: [Laughs] Like you said, 2-20 ft, I have fun surfing anything—especially when you’re getting any kind of barrels. We didn’t get barrels like that all year, so it was sick when we first got there! But we were a bit bored and over it after a few days...

What do you most appreciate in Yago's surfing?
Lucas: Every bit of it. I surf with Yago so much since he started surfing (he couldn’t surf until he was around 15 years old and all of the sudden he was doing backflips). He is my favorite surfer in the world I think. I feel like we push each other a lot, and he has improved so much in his barrel riding and his backhand lately, so I can’t wait to watch him on tour when it’s back!!
