Whatever Beach: Conner Coffin
Apply pressure.
In the incessant flood of clips we’ve become hard to impress and critical out of necessity. Yet, every now and again a series pushes its head through the pipes and holds our attention. Vacation Club’s Whatever Beach series illuminates. It’s clever in its music choices, it applies slo-mo only when necessary and plays with nostalgic aesthetics. Conner Coffin’s surfing is archetypal, reminiscent of the men who’ve whittled his home break of Rincon with the grain: Sir Tom Curren and Mr Dane Reynolds. Watch the way Conner exerts pressure with his back heel and readjusts, gripping his tailpad with his toes through turns; that’s the sort of rail work that’ll get you on tour. This is episode five of Whatever Beach and we applaud the crew’s attention to detail.
