Watch: Oscar Langburne in ‘Elegia’
A 15-year old who epitomises the (overused) word, ‘style’.
Oscar Langburne isn’t a super grom. He isn’t boosting airs double his height, popping chop-hops over your head, or making you question your decision of whether to ever surf again.
Oscar Langburne is 15-years old, and while that’s the same age Eli Hanneman was throughout the filming of his clip that dropped yesterday, there’s little reason to compare the two.
As Dan Scott said, “Eli and Oscar are polar opposite surfers.”
Oscar has the foundations of surfing sorted, and puts together those foundations as effortlessly as his friend, team-rider, and boss, Craig Anderson. His arms are quiet, back-knee dropped, and has the transitions between turns perfected.
You see, when it comes to transitions, it’s less about what you’re doing, and more about what you’re not. No awkward double pump bottom turns, impatient arm flailing, or glitchy pumping; Oscar surfs the way we imagine ourselves to.
This style also translates over to Oscar’s persona and opinions out of the water. It ain’t often you’ll find someone born in the 00’s who knows the band Joy Division, let alone imprints Ian Curtis on their board.
Here, in ‘Elegia’, we see Oscar on a recent trip to Indonesia. It’s the first clip we’ve seen Oscar feature in for some time, and it also features a few small interviews, as well as a run down of his incredibly tiny quiver.
It’s also his first ever time speaking!
For reference, there isn’t a board over 4’11” or 19 litres, and stoops as short as a 4’5″ Hypto – I’ve ridden bodyboards bigger than that.
