Watch: Mason Ho And The World’s Most Energy-Efficient Wave!
If you ride the wave both ways, there’s no need to paddle.
A backwash wedge with nobody around? It’s paradise for Mason Ho.
On a recent trek to Fernando de Noronha—one-part surfing in the QS 5,000 and two-parts filming for the upcoming Snapt 4—Mason provides poetry on a wave that most of us would render unsurfable. It’s fair to say that mortal sliders would look at this shallow, scattershot little mutant and opt for beers and a spliff on the beach, but Mase is doggedly undeterred.
Dodging and weaving, sticking and moving and grooving, like the Jimi Hendrix soundtrack he pulled from mom’s record collection, Mase jams with improvisational mastery. It’s cosmic surfing on the edge of chaos.
If you had a week to go search for surf and ended up here, you’d be bummed. Not Mase. It’s pure, solid gold. So, turn it up to 11 and let the sun take a holiday.
