Watch: John Florence Sails To Palmyra, Learns The Beauty Of A Life Unencumbered
This is how the world’s best surfer spends his free time (and robust pile of cash).
Imagine you’re John Florence.
Mid-20s, multiple World Champion, filthy stinking rich.
But, you can’t currently compete because for the second year in a row, you’ve badly injured your knee, and following surgery, won’t be capable of surfing for many months.
Whatcha gonna do…every damn day?
John is famously averse to social media, so an infinite scroll is off the table. His colony of bees only needs so much keeping. And really, how far can you paddle an 11-foot sea-torpedo before you go certifiably insane?
So John did what any bored, inquisitive, and independently wealthy boy would do: he proposed to his girlfriend (presumably to ensure the soon-to-be Mrs. Cribb, Mrs. Florence, or Mrs. Cribb-Florence, that he wouldn’t transform into some radical sea pirate and never return), gathered a few of his best friends and nautical experts, and set sail on a 30-day trip to the Pacific line islands—more specifically the Palmyra atoll.
In the videos above (part 1) and below (part 2), we see the first leg of John & friends’ epic journey.
They were social distancing before it was cool!
