Today’s youth will progress surfing further than our feeble minds can fathom. Jake’s a 17 year young cat out of Encinitas, California. He dropped this clip today with Hurley Youth, so we figured we’d give him a ring and see what he’s all about. “I’m in Haiti right now,” he tells Stab, “on a surf / Waves 4 Water trip. So we’re just going around giving out water filters. The waves have been okay. But honestly I’ve been seeing all the waves at home over the last swell and am feeling a little homesick,” he laughs. “It’s funny whenever I’m home it’s flat, and when I leave it gets good.” Jake’s got his mind set on track and is well spoken. “I’m in High School right now, but I’m also taking classes at Mira Costa Community College. Once I get my high school degree I’m going to work towards my college one. Growing up surfing in Encinitas is awesome, there’s so many good surfers who live there. At home I get to surf with Rob Machado, Taylor Knox and Damien Hobgood. It’s cool to have those guys as an influence.” Their surfing shines through in Mr Marshall’s, his rail game is on point. “My goals for the future are winning the Pro Juniors this season, I’m going to surf a few QS events and hopefully one day I can make the World Tour and go for a title.”
