Watch: Fun Boys Surfing In A Happier Time
Back when ‘social distancing’ meant just going for a surf.
Geez. What a week. COVID-19 transitioned from a lingering worry to worldwide pandemic in a handful of days. Toilet paper was hoarded, Uber prices were slashed, concerts cancelled, and most tragically, Stab High Melbourne was cancelled*.
In all seriousness though, this pandemic is quite threatening. With a current mortality rate estimated between 2-4% its at least 20x deadlier than the flu, and since no one has immunity everyone** is capable of contracting and spreading it.
While we’d recommend going for an uncrowded surf in these trying times, sometimes the surf is just shit (like today in Sydney) and you’re better off staying in bed watching people surf waves in better locations from better times.
The above is an excerpt from the first full length Fun Boys instalment filmed over a couple days near Byron. It features Creed McTaggart in his HS days, Garret Parkes before he joined the army, Ellis Ericson before he fell in love with finless craft, and Dave Winchester still riding a bodyboard.
*everyone who has bought streaming and or an event ticket will be refunded. We plan to run an event in Melbourne later this year, but with so little certainty in the future, we thought we best call this one ‘cancelled’.
**hot tip: cough a lot in the lineup, it’ll clear the best bank on the beach for you.
