Dane Reynolds is undeniably a person that anyone who surfs wants a piece of. And that’s absolutely fine and normal, because Dane has been the most exciting surfer in the world for the last, uh, however long. Part of his charm has been a staggered communique with his adoring public. He drip-feeds occasional clips through his portal, Marine Layer Productions, and when they arrive they’re always met with comments like “Dane’s my new favourite surfer again.”

Another avenue through which you can extract a little more closeness to Dane has just arrived. An Instagram account: @Sealtooth. It’s legitimately him too, unlike his Facebook page. Dane’s not been a social media guy for a long time, but now he’s arrived and it’s as awesome as you might’ve thought. This photo above is from today, and was accompanied by this text:

“i couldn’t not be apart of the conversation any longer! cam richards vs me in the hurley pro trials. honestly this format was always going to have some controversy. surfing is relative to the quality of wave, and when two people arent surfing the same quality or style of wave how do you judge them against each other? in this instance its became a social media war. thanks @quiksilver @vans @napkinapocalypse @cisurfboards @travlee @whatyouth @kellyslater @swankfuck_inc @nolannow @miniblanchard @eithanosborne and dozens more for fighting for me since i have zero social media presence. i’ve been holding out too long! this is a picture of me and my dad with our eyes closed cause wtf else do you post as your first pic?”

For someone with no Social Media presence he sure got a handle on @s and ‘wtf’s pretty quick. But more importantly, the point Dane’s making is a good one. We love a social beauty contest as much as the next media house but Dane at Lowers against Kelly or Mick as opposed to Cammy Richards, it’s not even a conversation.

It’s currently neck and neck, so go do what you know is right. And what Kelly Slater, Craig Anderson, Yadin Nicol and many more believe is right.

From Kelly:

From Yadin: “WTF??? How is this even close?”

Kelly also dialled in on Stab‘s Instagram to write “@camrichards is everywhere. Looking like a political campaign! #ItsOn :)”

GO VOTE HERE.

(Oh, and Luke Davis and Dylan Goodale are currently challenging the other semi).
