Unveiling The Demons: The Andy Irons Documentary Trailer
Eight years in the making, the new Andy Irons documentary is going to break your heart.
Discussion over Andy Irons’ life and death has been rife with speculation since that fateful November morning in 2010, as the world woke to news of his death in Grapevine, Texas.
We’ve heard the stories, the legends, the fables, conspiracy theories and coverups—let the swaying palm trees and translucent blue water cover up and wash away the darkness.
If you’re a star, if you’re an athlete, if you excel at anything, the public wonders: when life appears flawless, how could you have issues? But still, weekly or monthly, another musician, DJ, actor, surfer, rockstar dies as a result of their personal struggle. You know, that whole money won’t buy happiness morsel. We’re taught from an early age that drugs and alcohol and cigarettes will stop you from finishing that mile long run; they’ll stop the blood pumping to your heart.
And, occasionally they do.
But, a lot of the time they live on. Because in order to succeed, one must suffer.
Andy Irons was a brother, a husband, a tragically to-be father. He inspired (at least) three full generations of surfers. Colors of Andy are noted in the up and comers – the next competitive axe who could stay up all night then show up the next morning and take Kelly Slater to task, to steal his world titles – to be a man of the people. To do it with passion. But, in humanity, in life, love and carrying on, it gets complicated. Fame is hard. Mr Irons suffered from bipolar disorder – from addiction, from personal demons.
The eight years in the making and highly anticipated, Andy Irons: Kissed by God, produced by Teton Gravity Research has an official release date. Above is the trailer, it’s heavy – as is the film. A few months back we were invited to a private showing, and today the NDA has been lifted. A full-fledged review will be hitting this feed shortly. In the meantime, hit the triangle, and learn a little more about one of surfing’s all-time heroes.
