This Is What Olympic Training Looks Like For Team Australia
Elite specialists and a very serious affair at Kelly’s.
At the time of this broadcast, the Tokyo Olympics are 739 days away.
So far we’ve heard surfers both on and off tour, speaking of their predicted involvement in the event, even some, like Bede Durbidge, who’ve exited stage left in order to take up professional roles around medal acquisition.
They’ve acquired fancy titles, like Elite Program Manager, National High Performance Director or Surfing Australia National Squad Member, which could’ve simply been surfer.
Do they not seem like titles belonging to senior members of some multinational corporate conglomerate? Is it all a little serious for our humble wave riding past time? Or, now that there’s so many dollars and eyeballs involved, should Matt Wilkinson be updating his LinkedIn profile to appease big biz shareholders?
Anyway, as the first heat prepares to paddle out in two years time, national surf teams are coming together to begin sharpening their swords, and what better way to train then by spending a whole heap of time locked inside an inland tube made by the greatest surfer of all time.
Hit the triangle above to see how Team Australia are preparing to do battle for precious metal medallions.
