This Is Up There With The Best Nias Sessions We’ve Seen

We all remember the boat-busting Nias Swell of 2018—one which saw the world’s big-wave elite strap on their impact vests, say a little prayer, and scramble over the backs of woolly mammoths for both pleasure and fame. 

Memories include: Mark Healey chipping into a double-up bomb on his 7-something mini-gun. Koa Smith cracking open his cranium. Laurie Towner Laurie Townering. 

But beyond the size of the swell, it wasn’t actually that good. Waves were rolling over the reef and crumbling, others were running too fast, many were impossible to catch. The quality waves were few and far between, hence the quantity of B-grade clips amongst an A-minus cast. 

Which brings us to the video above, featuring Nias in its most sublime form. Six-to-eight-to-occasionally-ten foot and positively reeling. Not a drop of sweet tea missing the glass. And some of Europe’s finest tube excavators there to perform their civic duty.
