The Lilliputian Poetry Of Tomas Hermes
Graceful, stylish, petite—Tomas’s latest drop with Vans is prose in action.
Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to surfing. It’s the key ingredient in the precision of a perfectly placed carve. It’s critical in a mid-faced pump to get through the barrel. It’s a difference maker between clean and garish airs.
Tomas Hermes surfs with patience. Nothing’s out of place (except maybe an arm or two). There’s no flailing around. It’s clean, classic, pure surfing. Like a slug of well-written prose.
Directed and produced by Tomas Hermes, cinematography by his wife Ana Romanio, the Brazilian’s new drop with Vans, “SOMA,” is an exercise in piecing together the components of his recent travels and scores and turning them into something artful. And Tomas and Ana succeed in their vision. It’s eight-plus minutes of eye-pleasing poetry in motion.
