The Great Lakes Can Be Shockingly Hollow And Fun

Welcome to episode one of Dylan Graves x Vans’ 5 part series, “Weird Waves.”

Could it be? Semi-pumping waves in middle America without the assistance of machine? Absolutely.

Enter episode one of “Weird Waves” hosted by Dylan Graves, a man with the most unique travel budget in surfing. Instead of Vans footing the bill for Dyl to run off to tropical, A-Frame slinging sand and reef breaks, he sets out to search for waves that are little… er different. This is the first episode of this five part series. It takes place middle America, Minnesota to be exact – an unlikely area to have any sort of surf culture and the waves they find exceed Southern California’s average standards.

After linking up with a local guide, the boys found some waves that are borderline pumping, at least for what you’d expect in a freshwater lake in one America’s coldest states.

Hit play above. This clip is cold, fun, hollow, and umm… kind of weird.

Come for the freshwater, stay for Burton.
