Stab Interview: Dane Reynolds On Lineup Hierarchies And The Non-Evolution Of Modern Shortboards
The Stab Interview with the internet’s favorite surfer.
Alongside John Florence, Dane Reynolds consistently lands at the top of Stab‘s annual reader poll.
This means, amongst (mostly) American and Australian surf fans, there’s nobody you’d rather watch do the great ocean mambo. We feel similarly.
But Dane’s intrigue extends beyond his on-wave prowess. He’s also an artistic genius and noted freethinker, which make interviews with the man, on the rare occasion when he grants them, arguably more impactful than his fins piercing the lip.
Last year in South Africa, toward the end of the Stab in the Dark Allstars trip, we had Dane all by himself (Mick had been injured and Jordy left for Tahiti). After some prodding and a couple of Castle tall-boys, we convinced him to do a semi-proper sit-down interview.
Dane talked about lineup hierarchies (and whether or not they should be a thing), the non-evolution of modern shortboards (and why that’s fine), his favorite places to travel, and more.
