Ever since the closing of Clark Foam the hunt’s been on for different materials to slide beneath our feet. First we went to Epoxy, then to FiberFlex and now Varial Foam may just be the next big thing. Varial foam was developed by an engineer who worked on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenger submarine. The likes of Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Kolohe Andino, Joel Parkinson, Josh Kerr, Steph Gilmore and Dusty Payne have been giving the foam test runs. And shapers such as Matt Biolos, Glenn Pang, Wade Tokoro, Eric Arakawa, Darren Handley, JS, Chilli and Pyzel have also been experimenting with it. According to Mr Dorian it feels better than poly. We’ll just have to wait and see where this new technology goes. Oh, and if you forgot how hard Shane Dorian shreds, here’s a friendly reminder.
