Ross Williams Predicted Simpo’s Title-Spoiling Lowers Run!

Thanks to #Tournotes, the webisode series that never disappoints, Brett Simpson is a cult icon in surfing. At this point, perhaps more myth than man, a feeling that has only been strengthened by his absence from the World Tour in 2016.

But, Simpo won the trials for this year’s Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles. And just before the event ran, a #Tournotes emerged that was focused around Simpo’s presence at the main event.

It was in this episode that Ross Williams, one of the commentary team’s very best, eloquently predicted that Simpo would destroy title hopes: “He’s the title-spoiler,” foresees Ross in the above episode. “I’m not just saying that, Brett – I have faith, dude.”

And then what happened? Not only did Simpo send world number two Matt Wilkinson home in round two – but he then showed world number one John John Florence to the door in round three! Both of which earned the ire of surfers, fans, and observers of all ilk (read all about that here and here).

Watching this episode retroactively is perhaps better than watching it before the contest might’ve been. Do so above.
