Parker Coffin Makes A Convincing Case For Growing Up At Rincon
Hanging in Parker’s backyard in this episode of “Inspire”.
What gets Parker Coffin so excited he literally starts drooling? Perfect Rincon for one. Solitary beach walks at dawn for another.
Parker just dropped a new installment of his “Inspire” series on YouTube. Featuring the screw-foot and his non-drooling brother, Conner, it’s a cruisy spin through the boys’ Santa Barbara backyard. It also offers a convincing argument for why growing up in that zone produces so many freak talents.
Lakey, Dane, Bobby, Curren, the Coffin boys, for all of them it comes down to one thing: Rincon. When the Queen’s flexing, there’s no wave in North America like it. And the cast of characters that it’s produced and gravitate to it every winter continue to influence and drive surfing. From style to equipment, a whole lot of good comes out of Rincon.
But one question what remains unanswered is what the hell does everyone do during the summer? You can’t drive to Jalama every day. Santa Barbara proper gets absolutely zero waves in the summer. The Channel Islands block pretty much all the southern ground swells, meaning you have to be a road dog from basically May through September.
Parker appears to be fine with that, because when it’s on during the fall and winter, it’s on.
