Oscar Langburne Ain’t Just Highlines And Look Backs
Oscar’s graceful style doesn’t hinder his ability to free his fins or sink a bit of rail.
Just over a month ago Oscar Langburne broke his leg landing an air at a Central Coast beachie. This however hasn’t slowed him down.
The weekend he broke his leg he released a short from New Zealand, and now he’s put together a few clips from around Australia’s East Coast. “Some people think I can only just do high lines, so I wanted to show the odd turn [laughs].” Oscar told Stab when he dropped the clip.
Let’s be honest here. It’s not rails buried to the nose and jumps out into the flats, but Oscar’s graceful surfing doesn’t just look nice when he’s cruising along a left-hand point. The comparisons made to Craig Anderson’s surfing are well and truly overcooked, but it’s hard not to draw the comparison when there’s a dearth of surfing which looks this nice.
It also has a good soundtrack – Interpol and Siouxsie And The Banshees – another rarity in the abundance of surfing clips.
In addition to dropping this clip, Osc has also been busy showing support for Black Lives Matter and taking a public stance against racism. Osc has been buying the shirts himself and printing them, not for any money, but just to send to anyone who wants to wear one or donating the money for anyone who wants to pay. There will however be a run of shirts in the near future with all proceeds going to charity.
“Some of the surf industry has been pretty piss weak and quiet when they have the voice,” Osc told Stab. “As a white surfie kid most of us are privileged and don’t even know it. In saying that nearly all the surfers I speak with have been strong in their views and want to support [the BLM cause].”
