An Unexpected Amount Of Aerial Surfing From Mick Fanning
Also included: fine rail work and barrel riding.
Mick’s got a few trademarks, they’ve called him white lightning; they’ve called him Eugene. He’s the man who boxed it out with a great white on a live webcast and his flow on a wave is superior, and painstakingly gorgeous. However, no one’s ever called Mick an air guy. In edits and video parts, everyone once in a while you’ll see him fins free, above the lip (never in competition), but here, it looks like during his 2016 on-off season, he’s been gravitating to the space between wave and horizon. And this might be something that haters will see and say: Mick don’t do airs, stick to your rail, or that it’s photoshopped. But pumping down the line, hitting a section and projecting out of the water is a phenomenal sensation and nobody wants to be a one-trick pony.
