Mason Ho is the Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach wildcard
Mason Ho, a young man blessed with a spiritual belief in pleasurable solutions, recently signed on with Rip Curl. Today, he’s officially been announced as wildcard for the company’s World Tour event at Bells Beach, starting in a minute. In a perfect world, it’ll be 12 foot and Mase will scream highlines on a fluoro 7’6″ gun. But if there’s anything the first contest of the year taught us, it’s hope for the best, but expect the worst. Anyhow, here’s Mason jamming on why he’s got such love for Bells. And the reason wildcards are such a big deal this year? Because surfers who receive them get to keep their points. “All surfers in CT events (Top 34, replacements, wildcards) will keep their results and be ranked on the CT rankings,” Dave Prodan, WSL VP of Comms, told Stab. “Meaning that, theoretically, a non-Top 34 member (replacement, Wildcard) can qualify for next year’s Tour through the CT if he/she performs well enough. Last year, I believe two Semifinal finishes or three Quarterfinal finishes would have done the trick.” However, wildcards draw top seeds, so things aren’t real easy. Can Mason do some damage tho?
