Kanoa Igarashi Breaks Down Famous Surf Films For Vanity Fair
Blue Crush, Point Break, Surf’s Up, all the greats dissected!
If we ever needed proof that Surf’s Up is the best, or more precisely, only great Hollywood film ever made about surfing, this is it.
While breaking down classic surf-ish films of Blue Crush, Point Break 2, and Dogtown and the Z-Boys, Kanoa showed his age by speaking about the films in abstract terms, as if he’d never seen them before. He did, however, offer keen insights around the films’ peak moments and compared them adeptly to the true surfing experience.
Interestingly, when doing this “Surfer Explains” video for Vanity Fair, Kanoa Igarashi compares Surf’s Up‘s antagonist Tank Evans to Hawaii’s ultimate Lion, Sunny Garcia, then goes on to correlate the protagonist with both himself and Kelly Slater.
No matter how you splice it, this was surprisingly entertaining viewing from a non-surfing media giant, and we thought you might enjoy.
