Joel Parkinson And Occy Talk Retirement, Twinnies and Tubes

Joel got caught slippin’ in his latest Occ-Cast appearance.

“As long as I come in from every heat – aw, I’m not surfing heats anymore [laughs] – as long as I come in from every surf with a smile, then I’m happy.”

After decades in the game, it must be difficult to transition from a competitive surfing mindset to just… cruising. 

This is something Joel will be forced to reckon with following his final CT event – the 2018 Pipe Masters – which will likely kick off tomorrow morning. Joel is currently in second place for the Vans Triple Crown and will need a few heat wins to overtake Brazil’s Jesse Mendes.

There would be no more fitting way for Parko to walk away from professional surfing than with another Triple Crown title in tow.
