How To Strike A Black Mamba Fiji Swell
*Balls not included
Just two weeks ago Stab posted a video of Koa Rothman, Koa Smith, Nate Florence and co. striking a fun but ordinary swell at Cloudbreak. In the surfers’ minds, this was likely expected to be their annual visit to Fiji. But as we know the wave gods are often cruel and unusual, which is why, just a few days after Koa and crew headed back to Hawaii, the biggest swell since since 2012 set its course toward Tavarua.
Of course they had to go.
As self-proclaimed “big wave surfers”, there was literally no choice in the matter. At that size, Cloudbreak is the best paddle-in wave in the world, and as we would come to learn it ain’t half bad for towing, either.
So they re-packed their board bags (this time with 9’6 guns), bought another costly Fiji Air ticket, and sent themselves half way across the Pacific to catch one big wave apiece.
Worth it?
Duh!
