How Corey Lopez Placed Hurricane Dorian In His Crosshairs
And fired.
Hurricane Dorian brought more pain than waves.
The powerful storm stalled out over the Bahamas, smashing the islands before slowly wandering up the East Coast. There was never really enough fetch to generate big surf along the southeast coast…but Cory Lopez has been living on the Florida Gulf for 42 years and knows full well, you take advantage of every potential swell-producing opportunity you can find.
With O’Neill team riders, Dimitri Poulos and Robbie McCormick in tow, Cory hit the road. Plain and simple, they scored. Stumbling upon big, beachbreak barrels, for the trio, Dorian lived up to the hype. O’Neill documented the journey in their latest YouTube drop entitled “Strike Missions: Chasing Dorian.”
The crazy thing about the footage that they gathered is that Cory doesn’t look any older than the day he stepped away from tour back in 2011. He’s still built like barbed wire. He is still lightning fast with as much whip in his turns as he’s ever had. And he still makes his 6’2″ Mayhems look damn good.
