The North Shore Isn’t Always 12-Foot Teepees And Diabolical Washthroughs
A more playful side of The Rock.
Hawaii season is in full swing, and herds of professional surfers from around the world have made their annual migration to Oahu’s North Shore. The O’Neill team arrived in November, just in time for a mundane swell forecast.
This season’s robust roster includes Torrey Meister, Brett Barley, Ian Crane, Eli Olson, and more. Housing all these pros is difficult but manageable. The real struggle is figuring out where to put the heaps of boards they bring for sacrificial reef purposes. Pipeline and Backdoor have a reputation for mutilating fiberglass, making bulk quivers a necessity.
Despite the relatively sluggish conditions during the first few weeks, the boys stayed hungry, hunting down any clean section they could scavenge. A few walls at Rocky Point and some petite Pipe barrels were enough to satisfy their carnivorous appetites…for now.
Catch up with the O’Neill crew during the first installment of Hawaii Live 2020.
