The majority of surfers prefer a hollow wave that breaks over sand opposed to a rifling one three feet above sharp reef. The prospect of Southwest of France’s sandbanks sends anyone who gets off on fighting hard currents, paddling in place and finding the occasional opening into a jealous fit. Big beach breaks are where you learn to sharpen your knife, so when you do make that boat trip to the Ments (or somewhere “dreamy”) starring into tropical translucence and jagged coral is less intimidating.
