Dane Reynolds And Eithan Osborne Revisit An Archival Al Merrick Design
“I was on tour, saw this thing, thought it looked rad, and wanted to try it.”
“Originally released in 1995, Rob Machado’s magic 5’8″ x 18 1/2″ x 2 1/4″ Twinfinner was hidden in our board archives until Dane dusted it off and brought it to life in 2009,” says Channel Islands page on the MTF — whose initials stand for Machado TwinFinner. “The board Dane chose to ride in the France WCT was a replica of Rob’s MTF, minus the wings. Due to years of ding repair on Rob’s board, the wings had been filled, creating a new tail outline. When Dane asked us to re-make the magic board, this version is the result.”
Above, Dane and his Ventura acolytes grab one of his original MTFs, toss on a new stomp pad, cut open the glassed over leash plug, and bury some rail at some of the 805’s more playful locales.
“It goes so sick,” says Dane. “Look at how thin that tail is. At the time I was just into trying different shit. It’s so small for me now, but you can tell when a board has hydrodynamics, when it’s a good board and flows over water well.”
