Curious How Natxo Gonzalez, Aritz Aranburu, And Kepa Acero Got So Damn Good At Tuberiding?
Oh, and big waves too? Welcome to the Basque Country.
According to Wikipedia, “The Basque Country is an autonomous community in northern Spain. It includes the Basque provinces of Álava, Biscay, and Gipuzkoa.”
What Wikipedia failed to explain is how the Basque people—who learned to surf after a 1950’s Hollywood film set accidentally ditched a board in the rocks, which the local kids fixed and learned to ride—managed to monopolize the country’s quality surf spots.
Mundaka, Galea, Puta Roca, etc.
And in “normal” Spain? I can’t name one damn surf spot. Can you?
In this Red Bull produced film, we follow Natxo Gonzalez and friends around their “autonomous community’s” most wonderful corners, finding waves of varying size but remarkable quality at every turn.
It’s no wonder guys like Natxo, Aritz Araburu, and Kepa Acero became such exquisite wave-riders, both in smaller, grinding funnels and XXM bombies.
