Craig Anderson Blows Dust Off Vintage Craft And Stuffs Himself Into Arid Tubes
With ample support from Benny Howard and Lewie Dunn.
The beauty of freesurfing is that there’s always plenty left on the cutting room floor.
Whilst the couple of clips that Craig or Benny Howard (to a lesser extent, Lewie Dunn – he’s more of a memes guy) get on a trip like this end up in their hallmark clip for the year, there’s a whole bunch of, quite frankly, more relatable surfing left sitting on hardrives. Which is sad, because these guys go to great lengths and spend thousands annually on petrol to bring you the surf cinematography you so crave.
Pulling vintage crafts out of the tip has become all the rage, but it’s still interesting to see Craig’s take on it. Especially in good waves. Craig’s got the uncanny ability to make his surfing look completely uncontrived, despite hordes of imitators cocking their back legs, and the opening wave of the film is as pure a surfing moment as you’ll find.
Whilst the surfing’s not A+ by these fellas lofty standards, Hurt Locker’s sure to make you feel like loading up the Landy and hitting the road with a bunch of your mates. And after all, isn’t that why we watch surf films?
